General Provisions for the Peer Review of Manuscripts Submitted to Asian Studies: History and Modernity
1.1. Articles submitted to the editorial office for publication in Asian Studies: History and Modernity undergo peer review in order to ensure and maintain the journal’s high academic standards.
1.2. Manuscripts submitted to the editorial office are checked using the Antiplagiat plagiarism detection system. Manuscripts that successfully pass the plagiarism check and comply with the journal’s formatting and submission requirements are forwarded to experts for peer review. Only manuscripts that meet the journal’s formal submission requirements are eligible for peer review.
1.3. As manuscripts constitute the intellectual property of their authors, their content must be treated as confidential and must not be disclosed during the peer-review process.
Peer Review Procedure
2.1. Peer review is conducted anonymously. Reviewers are not provided with information about the authors, and authors are not provided with information about the reviewers. Where communication between an author and a reviewer is necessary, it is conducted through the journal’s editorial office.
2.2. Reviewers may include members of the Editorial Council and Editorial Board of the journal, as well as experts from other academic and educational institutions who hold a Doctor of Sciences or Candidate of Sciences degree in a relevant field. Heads and employees of the organizational unit in which the author works may not act as reviewers of the author’s manuscript.
2.3. The manuscript is sent to the reviewer electronically together with a notice concerning the confidentiality of the information obtained during the peer-review process.
2.4. The reviewer evaluates the manuscript according to the criteria established by the journal’s editorial office. The peer-review period must not exceed 14 days from the date on which the reviewer receives the manuscript.
2.5. Based on the review received, the editorial office decides whether to accept or reject the article for publication.
2.6. When the author is informed of the outcome of the peer review, the identity and personal information of the reviewer are not disclosed.
2.7. A manuscript that has been recommended for publication subject to revision is returned to the author together with the reviewer’s comments and recommendations.
2.8. All peer-review reports are retained by the editorial office in written form for a period of five years.
Requirements for the Content of the Peer-Review Report
3.1. The reviewer provides the editorial office with a written recommendation either to publish or to reject the manuscript, based on the following criteria:
— relevance of the manuscript’s content to the stated topic;
— relevance and timeliness of the research;
— appropriateness of the theoretical and methodological approaches and research methods employed;
— quality of the empirical and factual material used, including its novelty and reliability, supported by appropriate sources;
— validity of the conclusions and their consistency with the objectives of the research;
— quality of the abstract, including its completeness and conciseness;
— quality and relevance of the sources used, including recent scholarly publications by Russian researchers on the stated topic published within the preceding five years, as well as the use of international sources;
— academic and/or practical significance of the research.
3.2. The peer-review report must be signed by the reviewer and include the reviewer’s full name, academic degree, academic title, position, and the date of the review.
Disclosure Policy
Reviewers may not use any data or information contained in unpublished manuscripts for their own academic or research purposes.
